In a recent debate for President of the Philippines wannabee, a lady candidate say we must pay more attention to health care budgeting. Some hospitals she saw in her sorties do no have adequate water supply (a basic need) The burgeoning demand for Western health care has strained the budget and resources of govt hospital.
Just yesterday, a fellow health enthusiast brought his brother who had a gall bladder problem to a govt health facility in QC. He was yellowish and could hardly stand. He had a socialized CT scan for P5,000. But he could not be admitted despite a padrino because, the hospital is full beyond its capacity.
It is sad to note that critics say that the current dispensation has not built a new hospital.
If I were to be the President:
1. I will balance the supply and demand equation for hospitals. More govt hospitals will be built. This will discourage conglomerates who see health care as a vulture ground , to be discouraged
2. If the capacity of the govt hospital is reached, the patient can be forwarded to private hospital at no extra cost (this calls for subsidy program or a cap) and Universal Health Care
3. Have traditional medicine program expanded. Or even have schools for traditional medicine
4. Stop the privatization corporation of public hospitals
